Running A Company Requires A Shift In Thinking

Running a company requires a shift in thinking. I have been doing the same tasks at individual level: marketing, developing, dealing with clients, but, being in a company is not the same thing. Here are some funny realisations:

CEO vs CTO

Initially, we set ourselves thus:

CTO: Dominique Theodore CEO: Me

But, as we worked through, we realised i was more cut to be the CTO and Dominique, the CEO.

Documents

Dealing with companies as an individual means you don’t have to figure out contracts or documents. You just receive (, read) and sign them.

Having a company and dealing with people requires good paperasses, something Dominique has great experience with!

Moving slowly

Sometimes, you need to plan things out and make you sure you are doing the right thing. This slows you a little.

Owning products

When you just develop, you almost never own a product, except of course if you are in OpenSource. Having a company and owning a product means you have to think of adoption and marketing of the product.

Strategic thinking

When you have a team and assets, you need to think of ideas, selecting or demoting them, pricing etc etc etc. Lots of thinking.
